Are you a quilter or sewist who loves to grab some time to simply sit at your machine and sew, then this strip pieced quilt is one for you? I really enjoy every now and then to just sit at the machine and sew lots of strips together to create a quilt.
This quilt is based on a traditional design and results in a quilt with a strong diagonal format. The sample quilt is high contrast with lots of muslin (as background) highlights of reproductions and a reproduction black mourning print. Yet it looks contemporary. Imagine it made with red, white and blue or even scrappy?
An Irish Chain quilt was the first quilt that I made when I came back to quilting after a break when I was distracted by other sewing. This quilt is based on that traditional design with lots of sparkling chains to give a large quilt. The small squares in this quilt are just 2.5cm (1 inch) finished, apart from lots of sewing time, it is easily constructed with strip piecing techniques. The fabric choices give a high contrast quilt.
The quilt is constructed from 25 blocks in two different designs.
The quilt is then simply completed with a 7.5 cm (3inch) border to act as a frame. Alternately, I encourage you to design your own border treatment. Try it with multiple borders or none at all.
The pattern provides lots of diagrams to show you how to construct this quilt and enjoy the process.
