  • A traditional pattern that reminds me of mosaic pavements and is a quilt from my puzzling series. The defining features of this series is the use of a few different blocks to create an interwoven diagonal and horizontal design. The assembly is straightforward as in the pattern I have broken down the construction into simple sections within the design to create the design. The cutting preparation is completed with a combination of rotary cutting without templates and cutting using templates. This has been one of my most popular patterns, so I am sure that you too will enjoy creating your own version Download link expires in 10 days.
  • This block is known as Gothic Windows and was my hand work of choice for a few months during a very busy time when I needed some simple hand stitching in the evenings, as it requires little thinking. Just relax, cut, prepare, and stitch the curved heart sides using needleturn applique technique. After a few hundred you will become more efficient and faster! But you can decide to machine applique or needleturn by hand. The sample is made with a wide selection of reproduction red and cream fabrics. Imagine it in colours that fit into a nursery for a new baby or raid your scrap baskets for the heart shape fabrics and combine with a neutral tone on tone print as the background. This is a great quilt to use as a two colour or even a scrappy version, just sort your main (dark) and light fabrics into two stacks. Make sure you choose a wide range of reds or blues or whatever your primary colour is as you need the variation of tone to make your quilt more interesting.

  • I have always been intrigued by shapes and this quilt is one in my ‘spiral’ series. Inspired by photographs that I have taken everywhere of wrought iron fences, and this began from one small shape in a fence. At the same time, I had been collecting grey fabrics for ages, not really knowing the purpose, combined with my love of the colour yellow – Wrought is the result! Never underestimate the need for the third colour in the reproduction double pink, without it the quilt surface would not have been as interesting. The edge of every spiral is finished with a very fine machine zigzag on the raw edge. Although there are lots of the spirals, I find that after the first 20 or so the machining sets in my memory and I find that the process becomes my meditation for the day, and I enjoy the time. Banksia is a smaller version, the same size blocks just fewer and a different layout and gentle colours.
